“The Best Lesson…”

"I bet you know someone that needs to read this book!"

I want to hear about the best tip you have ever received.  The intent is that someone might learn something from your tip, thus making them a better golfer.  Golf instructors (including myself) have many ways to teach their methods, but let’s be real…we have to get the club through the impact area correctly in order to hit a good shot.  There are a lot of ways to do that.  Let’s face it, if there was one perfect golf swing, there would be no such thing as the PGA Tour and Jim Furyk would be broke!  But if you looked at his swing in slow motion from about 2 feet before impact to about 2 feet after impact, he and all other tour players are almost all identical.

What I’m getting at is that there are a lot of ways to get it done.  The key is the impact area.  So, to get this party started, I’ll go first.  The best tip I ever got was a story about David Duval.  I heard a story (I don’t remember where I saw or read it) that told of tour player Bob Duval talking to his son David as a youth.  You remember David Duval, right?  2001 Open Champion, 59 at the Hope to win, #1 in the world at one time…that David Duval.  Anyway, as a youth David used to try and emulate the game’s greatest players.  His dad told him “Why don’t you swing like David Duval?”  The rest is history.  The Moral: Swing within your own strengths in order to reach your maximum potential!

Share your best tip with the group.  When you do, I’ll share another great tip on how to be successful around the greens!

My best tip was to take lessons from a PGA Professional. Don’t rely on friends to teach you, hire a golf pro and take lessons on a regular basis.

That’s a good one too GolfGurl! I don’t want to offend anyone, but I agree with a quote my friend and fellow PGA Member Chad Gunn told me once. “Amateurs teach amateurs how to play like amateurs.” Getting proper instruction from a PGA Professional will help you avoid some frustration in the long run. Learn to do it right from the get go. It will be hard to untrain the old habits and retrain the new ones…that’s twice the learning!
